Big World Pictures Takes Karlovy Vary Winner 'The Almost Man'

"The Almost Man" will be Big World's first theatrical release.
COLOGNE, Germany – Newly minted Brooklyn-based distributor Big World Pictures has picked up U.S. rights to Norwegian feature The Almost Man as its first theatrical release.

The debut feature from Norwegian director Martin Lund won the Crystal Globe best picture award at last year's Karlovy Vary film festival.

The dramedy focuses on Hendrik, a 35-year-old man child who finds out he is about to become a father and is forced to give up his own childish behavior. Star Henrik Rafaelsen won best actor at Karlovy Vary for his performance.

“The Almost Man is one of the finest -- and most enjoyable -- films I’ve seen in the past year. We’re proud to have it leading the inaugural slate for Big World Pictures,” said Big World’s Jonathan Howell in a statement.

The Almost Man will be Big World's first release. The specialty distributor plans 3-4 theatrical bows per year. The deal for The Almost Man was signed with sales group LevelK. SF Norway released The Almost Man locally last September.

Gadgetwise: Adding Pictures to the Windows 8 Photos App

I have a bunch of pictures right there on the desktop of my Windows 8 computer, but I don’t see them showing in the Photos app. Why aren’t they there?

The Photos app included with Windows 8 should be able to display those images as long as you move them into computer’s Pictures library. In the Desktop view, click the File Explorer icon in the taskbar. The media libraries are listed in the File Explorer window.

Click or tap Pictures to open that library. Next, add the photos by dragging them from the desktop into the Picture library window. The images should then be visible in the Photos app.

You can also add folders from external hard drives and other locations to your Pictures library. Microsoft has steps for adding — or removing — folders from libraries here.

Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty Reunite With Shirtless Ian Ziering at Chippendales Show

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas -- unless you're a beloved '90s TV actor whose former costars like to post about it on Instagram and Twitter. Ian Ziering got a blast from the past on Sunday, June 30, when his former Beverly Hills, 90210 cast mates Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty showed up at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip to catch the end of his run as a guest headliner for famed male dance revue Chippendales.

"Look out, Vegas," Garth, 41, captioned a picture of herself and Doherty on the plane to Sin City, where Ziering, 49, has been heating up the stage for four weeks. "I don't know what to say," she wrote a few hours later, alongside a shot of the two standing with a couple of shirtless dancers.

"What a night," Doherty, 42, added on the photo-sharing site, next to her own pic of five Chippendales stars dressed as cowboys.

Ziering -- who played Steve Sanders on the Aaron Spelling drama, opposite Garth's Kelly Taylor and Doherty's Brenda Walsh -- welcomed his former costars backstage, where they staged a mini 90210 reunion. The trio seemed thrilled to see one another and later gamely posed for pictures on the red carpet.

In one photo, former frenemies Doherty and Garth are seen nearly doubled over with laughter as Ziering stands shirtless between them, his six-pack abs and chiseled chest on full display. In another, the ladies appear to be fixing his bow tie as he makes a goofy face and shows off his bulging biceps.

Ziering started his run as a guest headliner with Chippendales at the beginning of June. "Actors and performers never know what their next job will be, and when I got the call from Chippendales, my jaw dropped as it came on the heels of TMZ calling me fat on national TV," the married father of two said in a statement about the gig. "I am passionate about health and fitness, so I've kept in shape, and dancing is something I've always enjoyed, so I figured why not?...It's really a dream come true!"

Albeit a strange dream. "To be surrounded by all that naked man ass is kind of discombobulating," he told Access Hollywood Live recently. "I never had that locker room experience!"

Milton Greene was the best photographer of women I ever knew," declared Richard Avedon. Marilyn Monroe agreed. After their first session together in 1953, she sent Greene two dozen roses and a note saying his pictures were the most beautiful of her she had ever seen. Over the next four years she would pose for him more than 50 times. Greene's skill lay in his unfussy approach (he used to say, "If you can't light it with one light, then you can't light it") and ability to establish an intimate rapport with his subjects. Monroe felt so comfortable with Greene and his wife that she moved into their Weston, Conn., home for a time.

Born in 1922, Greene apprenticed under Harper's Bazaar's Louise Dahl-Wolf but came into his own as a photographer for Life. He also was renowned for his fashion photography and was counted as an equal of such cutting-edge lensmen as Avedon and Irving Penn. Greene died of cancer in 1985 at age 63.

Now an impressive chunk of Greene's work -- about 75,000 images -- is set to be auctioned by Profiles in History on July 27 for an anonymous collector who purchased the images from Polish investors who, in turn, gained control of a share of Greene's estate after a business deal with the family went bad. (Joshua Greene, who controls the rest of his father's works, made repeated attempts to restore the archive but was rebuffed by the collector.) Mostly Kodak Ektachrome slides, the images are being offered with copyright, something of a rarity. The sale includes more than 3,700 shots of Monroe; many never have been seen publicly.

While the artistic significance of Greene's work is clear, its monetary value is trickier to calculate. Profiles owner Joe Maddalena thinks the "once in a lifetime" collection could sell for more than $1 million, in line with some expert valuations of Greene's work.
