Julianna Margulies just flamed out in court ... and she'll have to face a jury for allegedly screwing her former managers over.

A judge just rejected her motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by D/F Management.  The company claimed in a lawsuit it filed against her that they secured her roles in both "The Good Wife" and a L'Oreal deal that made Julianna the spokesperson.

The judge ruled that there's enough evidence to warrant the case going to trial.

D/F Management accuses Julianna of firing them and then cutting off their 10% commission on the show and the commercial.  D/F wants $420,000 in back commissions and they also want a cut of her future earnings.

 

John Grisham's 'A Time to Kill' Headed for Broadway

NEW YORK -- John Grisham's courtroom drama A Time to Kill will be presented on Broadway in the fall, marking the first time one of the mega-selling author's properties has been adapted for the stage.

Producers Daryl Roth and Eva Price announced Tuesday that the play will begin preview performances Sept. 28 at the John Golden Theatre, with official opening night set for Oct. 20.

Adapted by Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), the emotionally charged morality tale centers on an idealistic young lawyer who takes on the defense of a black father accused of murdering the two racist white males responsible for a horrific crime against his 10-year-old daughter. The incendiary trial ignites unrest in the fictitious Mississippi town where the story is set.

"It was my first book and the first that I have allowed to be adapted for the theatre," said Grisham in a statement. "Rupert Holmes did an excellent job of translating it from the page to the stage, and I am happy that not only my loyal readers, but a whole new audience will be able to experience this story in live theatre."

Directing the production is Ethan McSweeny, who staged the 2000 Broadway revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man. Cast and additional creative team will be announced shortly. McSweeny directed the premiere of the Grisham adaptation at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., in May 2011.

Published in 1989, A Time to Kill was adapted for the screen in a 1996 feature directed by Joel Schumacher that starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew McConaughey and Kevin Spacey.

 

Olympic Torch (But Not Olympic Flame) Headed To Space

The president of Russia's Sochi 2014 Olympic Committee could hardly contain himself — although Twitter contained him to 140 characters at a time:

"Our ambition to conquer Space 1st time ever in the Olympic history becomes reality," Dmitry Chernyshenko tweeted Monday. "#Sochi2014's Torch Relay will reach the open space!"

In a series of tweets, Chernyshenko announced that cosmonauts will carry an official Sochi 2014 Olympic torch to the International Space Station, and then out on a spacewalk.

Cosmonauts will take the torch to the space station in early November. But, as AroundTheRings reporter Mark Bisson tweets, the torch will not hold the sacred Olympic flame, which is traditionally ignited by a Greek high priestess (actually an actor), using the rays of the sun at Mt. Olympus.

Bisson says that an "imitation flame" will go to the International Space Station.

That's because an open flame in a spaceship could be, well, dangerous. Still, once back on earth at the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics in February, the space torch will be all fired up.

"The same torch that will go to the open space afterwards will be used to light the Olympic cauldron at the Opening Ceremony of the Games," says Chernyshenko, who seemingly could not be happier about the development.

"Nothing is impossible... #Sochi2014 is going to the Space :-) Let's Go - Po-ekhali!" he tweeted today, including a photo of himself in a spacesuit.

"Nothing is impossible," except, of course, keeping an open flame in a spacecraft for a long period of time.

But, given a Winter Olympics at a Black Sea resort with palm trees and expected Olympic spending of around $51 billion, almost nothing seems impossible.
