Fox Pauses Production on Bollywood Film ‘Bang Bang’ After Star's Brain Surgery

Fox Star Studios is suspending shooting of Bang Bang, its Bollywood remake of the Tom Cruise starrer Knight and Day, after the film’s lead, Hrithik Roshan, underwent emergency brain surgery Sunday.

India media have been reporting that Roshan, one of India’s biggest stars, suffered a blow to the head while shooting stunts for Bang Bang in Phuket, Thailand two months ago (chronic subdural haematoma is often caused by a head injury that results in bleeding in the membrane surrounding the brain). But neither the actor nor the studio has confirmed the cause of his injury.

Roshan’s father, director Rakesh Roshan, was quoted widely in the Indian media as saying the surgery was a complete success and that his son would be discharged in a matter of days. The 39-year-old actor will need several weeks to recover, however, so a planned late July European shoot for Bang Bang has been postponed, according to leading local newspaper the Times of India.

"Hrithik's health and well-being is our top priority now. So, the shoot of the third schedule of Bang Bang has been moved forward," a spokesperson from Fox Star Studios told the Times.

The project is a joint production backed by Star TV and Twentieth Century Fox.

Roshan, well known for his lead roles in the Bollywood blockbusters Jodhaa Akbar and the superhero franchise Krrish, was reportedly set to begin work on postproduction and promotion for Krrish 3, written, produced and directed by his father and due out Nov. 3. According to the Times, there has been no change to the release schedule of that project.

Shortly before his surgery, the actor posted on his Facebook page: “We all know that we create a life of joy using the power of our mind. I’ve had the privilege of creating wonders with this amazing gift given to us called the brain. Occasionally, one must look within and realize its value. It gives us the power to see, hear, touch, smell and taste, it allows us to conquer fear and create courage to do things we never imagined. Maybe it's time for me to feel the power literally. I am going to go through brain surgery on Sunday and want you to know that I am going in with absolute power to recover fast. My thanks to all of you for using the power of your mind to contribute to my life. Love you all.”

Stars Flock to Opening of Helmut Newton Exhibition at Annenberg Space for Photography

Rashida Jones Cindy Crawford Helmut Newton opening - P 2013

A new exhibition of work by fashion photography icon Helmut Newton kicked off in style Thursday night.

The opening for the Annenberg Space for Photography's Helmut Newton: White Women • Sleepless Nights • Big Nudes, was attended by celebrities such as Rashida Jones, Cindy Crawford, Mandy Moore, Rosanna Arquette, Minka Kelly, Bella Heathcote, Bob Evans (an icon himself), Daryl Hannah  and China Chow.

Art world celebrities also came out, such as The Museum of Contemporary Art's Jeffrey Deitch, Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Michael Govan and wife Katharine Ross, and photographers Matthew Rolston and Lauren Greenfield. They were greeted upon arriving with a big tent for cocktails that contained two chandeliers facing out to Century City's skyscrapers. The scene was a sea of black clothes, black glasses and high heels. Newton himself would have approved.

STORY: Ferragamo Teams With New Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

As people strolled by the intensely erotic images -- some of them of unlikely models like 1970s and '80s body builder Lisa Lyon -- one of things being uttered was "wow -- no fake boobs! Those boobs are real." Newton brought the womanliness out in every woman he shot, but he also brought out their toughness, their strength, their inner dominatrixes. To wit, almost every photo used garters and garter stockings.

A photo of Charlotte Rampling -- who's appearing on Showtime's Dexter in its last season as a forensic shrink -- was free of fetish-wear (unlike her famed Night Porter image) -- but still made a provocative nude. That was shot in 1973.

Several Newton docs were also shown in the midst of the exhibit, and some of the evening's attendees were also  participants: Cindy Crawford and Daryl Hannah were shot by Newton at the height of their fame and show up in one film;  Paloma Picasso and Elsa Peretti also make appearances.

Famed L.A. photo gallerist David Fahey -- who was on hand -- also speaks in one of the films, crediting Helmut Newton for allowing fashion photographs to veer off of traditional fashion pictures.

PHOTOS: Behind the Scenes of THR's Stylists Issue

"He didn't make fashion photographs that looked like they belonged in fashion magazines," said Fahey. "He made them art."

One great line in the film: a woman auditions to be shot by Newton. After meeting her, he told her, "You're a nice girl. I'm not looking for nice girls." Maybe that's why in his day, Time magazine dubbed him "The King of Kink." In the film, Bob Evans laughs and says, "Helmut procured more women for me than anyone I've ever known. Every actress was dying to be photographed by him."

Bella Heathcote and Rashida Jones were both wearing pieces by Kelly Wearstler.

Stars Support 'Black Swan' Choreographer's Dance Company at Bel Air Fundraiser

Benjamin Millepied Natalie Portman - P 2013Benjamin Millepied and Natalie Portman

L.A. Dance Project took the stage on Solstice Eve at a private home in Bel Air to raise funds for the year-old dance company headed by Benjamin Millepied, the French dancer who also choreographed the ballet sequences in Black Swan.

Millepied thanked his wife (and Black Swan star) Natalie Portman for her “endless love and support,” adding “I’m so happy you still like dance after Black Swan.”

Portman admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that, despite her hands-on ballet work in the film, she’s no ballet expert. “Dancers know I’m not a pro, but a lot of others definitely make the mistake.”

Supporters at the intimate summer soiree included Aaron Sorkin, Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton, Reese Witherspoon and CAA’s Jim Toth, Giada de Laurentiis, artist Barbara Kruger, and Black Swan producer Mike Medavoy, who underscored his dance cred by noting he was one of Mikhail Baryshnikov's first friends when the Russian dancer moved Stateside.

After dinner and the performance by the LADP, revelers hit the dance floor themselves, including Rashida Jones, Millepied and Portman.
