GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — After feasting on the Grand Junction Rockies in 2012, the Ogden Raptors are getting a little payback, Pioneer League style.
The Rockies finished off a two-game sweep of the Raptors Friday night at Suplizio Field with a 6-3 victory.
A year ago, Ogden won the first eight meetings between the two teams, and eventually eliminated Grand Junction in the playoffs.
The lone bright spot for the Raptors offensively was Jesmuel Valentin. The Ogden leadoff hitter scored all three Raptors runs, singled twice and stole a base.
Valentin led off the game with a walk and a stolen base.
Hank Yates then singled him home to give the Raptors an early 1-0 lead.
Grand Junction answered with two in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.
Robbie Perkins knocked in three runs, and Ryan McMahon had his second straight multi-hit game for the Rockies.
Joel Payamps earned the win for Grand Junction. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out five.
Ogden starter Fransico Villa suffered the loss.
The Raptors return home for a four-game series against the Idaho Falls Chukars. Victor Araujo takes the mound for Ogden against the Chukars’ Jakob Junis.
